Without the freedom of the press and more importantly the hard-working journalists who seek the truth when investigating people, corporations, government officials, etc., this country would be just like any other authoritarian led country. A lie is not a lie — it is just a pragmatic way to justify one’s actions or behavior on any given subject!

Under the Trump administration, the truth was severely abused for the sake of promoting an agenda that would benefit primarily privileged people in our society. Trump’s modus operandi became the norm for other Republican members of Congress to follow and act in a similar fashion when dealing with their constituents or more specifically, members of the free press. Trump often remarked that the press was his No. 1 enemy!

The January 6 Committee has investigated, interviewed and documented over 800 hundred witnesses to discover the causes for the insurrection and destruction on our Capitol, as well as make recommendations to prevent such an occurrence ever happening again. The District Office of Justice’s special prosecutor, Jack Smith, has also thoroughly investigated the Capitol riot, but has been thwarted by the courts in his request for an early trial date. Trump’s lawyers have been successful in delaying the adjudication of Trump’s actions before the election on Nov. 5!

However, the public has already been privy to the efforts of many investigative journalists. They have discovered voice recorded messages from different members of Congress and Trump’s inner circle of allies that plotted an illegal overthrow of the government to keep Donald Trump president.

Why is the Republican Party subservient to Trump’s efforts to regain the presidency? A party that once stood for strong law and order. A party that upheld the Constitution as the law of the land, not the law as defined by Donald Trump. When are those who have been lying about their involvement in the coup attempt to keep Trump in the presidency to be held accountable by our Department of Justice? If it were not for journalists and the free press, we would never know the truth behind those questions!

We need a two-party system of government to maintain a healthy democracy. Parties that are willing to debate issues and make compromises for the benefit of its citizens. Bring back the Reagan Republicans!

Are the walls tumbling down on democracy? Is authoritarianism replacing our fortress of freedom?
