This week’s golf tip from local legend, instructor Jim Suttie

Local golf instruction legend Jim Suttie offers up another tip of the week, this time focusing on how to end your slice. Below is Suttie’s expertise:

“It is a fact that over 80% of all golfers slice the ball. Here is what you should do:

Strengthen your grip, turn both of your hands to your right if you are a right-handed golfer. Close up your stance — your feet should be aiming right of your target — close the face of club ever so slightly. Take the club around your body in a flat plane. Swing your arms down close to your body coming down until you feel you are swinging right of your target. Finally, release and turn your right hand over your left hand through impact. Seeing the ball go far to the left is a good thing because that is when subconscious learning take over. The more you see the ball go to the left, the more you will try to avoid the left shot by trying to swing to the right. The eventual result will be a straight shot. This should stop those 80% of you who slice the ball.
