Taxpayers within Park City School District boundaries can expect a bump in their bill after the Board of Education this week passed a budget giving teachers a 6% raise.
Next year is the last year covered by the current agreement with teachers, passed in 2023, and teachers will receive the same percentage of raise next year.
The proposed tax rate would raise the school district’s tax on a $1.3 million Park City primary residence by $154 annually.
As per Utah requirements when a public body raises taxes, a truth-in-taxation public hearing will be held during the district’s Aug. 20 meeting.
“We want to stay ahead of the game on wages. Our employees negotiated at 6%,” district Business Administrator Randy Upton said. “This year as I’ve looked at other districts coming in, there’s been a couple districts at 5%. Districts around us have been at 4%, 2.75%.”
The 6% raise, he said, would keep Park City School District ahead of the curve with attractive salaries for educators.
The board held a public hearing at which community members could comment on their thoughts about the fiscal year 2024-24 budget. No one stood up to speak.
The budget passed unanimously.
