The Park City Rotary Club recognized its 2024 Citizen of the Year Awards at a ceremony during lunch Tuesday. Tracy Meier was awarded the Linda Singer Berrett Professional Citizen of the Year award and Adam Strachan was awarded the Mayor Jack Green Volunteer Citizen of the Year award.

The recognition program dates back over four decades as the Rotary Club honors local citizens for their contributions to the community. The awards were presented at the club’s weekly meeting on Tuesday, August 20 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Park City.

Meier is the program manager at the National Ability Center. Meier has dedicated over 22 years to the adaptive recreation industry. After graduating from East Carolina University, she began her career as an intern at the National Ability Center.

Meier is a certified therapeutic recreation specialist, a certified therapeutic riding instructor, a Professional Ski Instructors of America adaptive level 3 instructor and an examiner for Intermountain Health. She has presented at numerous local, national, and international conferences and training sessions. Notably, Meier developed an exchange training program to establish an adaptive ski program with instructors in South Korea.

Strachan’s community highlights include serving as the chair of the Park City Planning Commission from 2007 to 2017, as President of the Association of Ski Defense Attorneys and as a board member of the Mountain Trails Foundation. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California and his law degree from the University of Utah, where he was the executive editor of the Journal of Land, Resources, and Environmental Law.

Strachan works as a partner at Strachan Strachan & Simon PC. He has defended nearly every ski resort in Utah, along with many other clients, in a wide variety of cases throughout his professional career.

“In the Park City Rotary Club, we are all motivated to serve our community,” said past Rotary president Bob Richer, who oversees the awards. “But it is also important for us as Rotarians to recognize those outside of our club who really make a difference through their service to the community. Tracy and Adam are just two examples of the great citizens we have in Park City who are dedicated to making our community a better place.”

Following a long-standing tradition, Meier and Strachan will be featured as Grand Marshals of the Sept. 2 Miners Day parade down historic Main Street in Park City.

The Jack C. Green Volunteer Citizen of the Year award is named after the former Park City mayor who served from 1978 to 1986 who was instrumental in rallying community volunteerism during the community’s formative years as a destination resort.

The Linda Singer Berrett Professional Citizen of the Year Award is named in honor of Park City Rotary’s first female president who was a strong community leader in her role as a teacher and school principal before her passing in 2000.

The Park City Rotary Club was the original Rotary Club in the community, starting in 1980. Today there are three. The club started its Citizen of the Year Awards program in 1981, adding the professional category in 1993. The list of 72 past recipients is a veritable who’s who of individuals who have made a vital difference to the quality of life in the Park City community.

The Park City Rotary Club was named Utah Rotary Club of the Year in 2014. It is widely recognized for its service projects in the community and its support of local nonprofits.

Among the club’s many activities is the annual Miners Day celebration. The event will feature a parade, a daylong festival for the community in City Park, and the annual Running of the Balls, which raises upwards of $50,000 for local causes.
