Park City High School’s Mountain Biking Team is gearing up for its annual Bike Swap fundraiser next weekend, April 27 and 28, at the Utah Film Studios, 4001 Kearns Blvd.

Now in its 20th year, the bike swap aims to raise crucial funds for scholarships and fees for the upcoming season.

The event has become a staple in the local calendar, attracting cycling enthusiasts from across the region looking to buy, sell or donate bicycles and gear. From high-end mountain bikes to road bikes. E-Bikes and children’s cycles, the event promises a wide range of biking equipment at competitive prices.

“Twenty percent of the proceeds from the sale go directly to supporting our mountain biking team,” said Pete Stoughton, Coach and director of the Park City Mountain Bike team. “We have a pretty lean budget, but we still have to raise funds because we want to keep our costs extremely affordable despite living in Park City. We are able to keep a six-month program under $600.”

Park City High School’s Mountain Biking Team is a co-ed race team (40% of the team are female) that has grown significantly since its inception. 240 youth riders, ranging in age from seventh to 12th grade, now participate along with 80 coaches, who are mostly volunteers. The team competes in the Utah NICA leagues and garnered the state championship last year, underscoring the talent and dedication of its young athletes.

The Bike Swap fundraiser is made possible through the generous donations of gently used bicycles and gear from the community. Event organizers encourage anyone with items they’re looking to sell to register in advance (swap.documine.com). You may also bring your items to the swap location on April 24 and 25 from 4-7 p.m. and April 26, from 4-8 p.m.

Last year’s event raised $10,000. This year, organizers aim to surpass that figure, with all funds going to offset the costs of coach support, general operating costs and a scholarship program that supports 15-20 riders a year.

“Basically, we provide a forum for people to buy and sell their bikes,” said Stoughton. “The 20% commission we take covers all of the costs associated with the bike swap, equipment, supplies etc. We don’t charge an entry fee; it is totally free, and there are usually some killer deals. Prices drop on Sunday.”

The Bike Swap will take place on Saturday, April 27, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, April 28, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. In addition to bikes for sale, used bike equipment, with the exception of helmets, is welcome.
