The number of people that have been touched by last Saturday’s accident is amazing and the support from the cycling community has been awesome. Bill Corliss dedicated a lot of time and effort to improve the laws that protect all of us as cyclists, and his tragic death brings to light the amount of work that still remains to be done.
The Bill Corliss Bicycle Advocacy Fund has been formed to continue Bill’s efforts to improve awareness, lobby state and federal lawmakers and mentor new cyclists. I urge each one of you to make donations to the fund and help us ensure our sport is safe; for us and future generations.
Saturday morning, I received the unbelievable call from Boris Lyubner, while he stood along the road, devastated by what had just happened. I personally delivered the horrific news of Bill’s accident to his loving wife and 12-year-old son. I want to keep this from happening to anyone else. The sport of cycling brings so much joy to all of us and no one deserves to die like this. Zero fatalities is our goal.

Culinary fundraiser

On behalf of the National Ability Center, I would sincerely like to thank the Park City community for their assistance and generous support of the National Ability Center’s Red, White & Snow fundraising event last weekend, which was sponsored by The Hamlet Companies and Wells Fargo. Through the generosity of our sponsors and guests, we were able to raise necessary funds that will allow the Ability Center to continue to offer our quality recreational and athletic programs for people with disabilities and their families.
The event on March 24 and 25 featured Vintner Dinners in luxurious private homes, wine and culinary educational seminars, the ever-popular Zions Bank Ability Ski Challenge and a rousing gala dinner and auction. The live auction was also an enormous success including big ticket items, such as a trip to France with business class airfare, a lunch in New York with the Dr. Ruth Westheimer, skiing with Stein Eriksen and original artwork from Rick Garcia.
We would also like to thank The Grand Summit Resort Hotel at The Canyons and all the local chefs for their support and assistance. We greatly appreciate all of the volunteers and committee members who selflessly dedicated their time and talents to our mission. Thank you to all who helped us to continue to “Provide Opportunities to Discover Abilities.”
