Both the Democratic and Republican candidates and platforms have left off the existential issue of the United States: the national debt.
Three months ago, the interest cost of the debt exceeded the entire defense budget. It just keeps getting worse no matter the party. Take a minute to think what the ramifications to the United States would be if we defaulted on our debt.
There are ways to pay the debt down. The most palatable way is to grow the economy, sunset expired government programs, shrink the size of all government, limit government benefits to only two children (this is done in other Western governments), have parents pay for the welfare benefits of their children up to age 30 (this is done in Germany).
Calvin Coolidge said: “After all, the chief business of the American people is business. They are profoundly concerned with producing, buying, selling, investing and prospering in the world.”
If the U.S. government untethered American business, the economy could grow very, very fast and a lot more revenue could be collected.
If the U.S. government leaves American business tethered, it will grow much, much slower and revenue would not increase very fast.
Let your government representatives know this issue needs to be addressed.
