¿Qué es lo que viene? ¿Después que los nueve inmigrantes ilegales fueron detenidos por los agentes federales la semana pasada en Park City? Según Lori Haley, portavoz de agencia, “Esto formó parte del esfuerzo nacional de la Imigracion Americana y el Enforzamiento de la Aduana (ICE) de castigar severamente aproximadamente a unas 600,000 personas que se han quedado en el país después de haber sido ordenados ser deportados.” Ella también mencionó que esto no fue una redada al azar, aunque lo parezca .
La verdad es que estamos preocupados y estoy preocupada en particular en como afecta a los niños. El lunes pasado algunos estudiantes estuvieron tan ansiosos de compartir lo que habian experimentado que fue muy dificil para ellos poder concentrarse antes de compartir lo que habían pasado. Uno pequeño dijo que la inmigración había venido a su casa y le mostraron una foto de una familia preguntandole si los conocia. El contestó sus preguntas cortesmente y se fueron.
Algunos niños empezaron a hablar acerca de ¿qué pasaría si algunos miembros de su familias fueran llevados y ellos quedaran solos? Uno de ellos dijo: “Tendremos que cocinar por nosotros mismos!” Otro mencionó, “tendremos que tener alimentos primero.” Todos estuvieron de acuerdo que necesitaban dinero para poder comprar algo de comida. Uno de ellos dijo que él tenía algo dinero que él había ahorrado de concesiones y regalos.
Me puse triste al escuchar sus miedos;algunos mencionaron que sus madres estaban esperando un bebé y no querían que tuvieran sus bebés en un lugar desconocido y lejano. Creo que debe hablar a sus niños, explicar tanto como pueda y tratar de dar algo de consuelo y la paz a sus mentes.
Según las autoridades tres de esos detenidos, la semana pasada fueron considerados fugitivos, y los otros fueron detenidos por infracciones de inmigración descubiertas en el tiempo de la operación.
Hoy, sábado 28 de abril a las 7 de la tarde en Iglesia Católica de Santa María en Park City, los líderes de la comunidad van a reunirse para evaluar la situación y organizar algún tipo de apoyo para los miembros de las familias que tienen a alguien que lo pusieron en custodia. Usted esta invitado,venga por favor y participe, es muy importante escuchar las opiniones de muchos individuos diferentes y cómo este acontecimiento ha afectado sus vidas. Así podremos hablar acerca de lo que debemos estar haciendo y cómo la comunidad puede ayudar.
Hace uno año atrás una de las demostraciones más grande de inmigrantes fue organizada en Utah y alrededor del país. Miles de personas fueron a las calles de Salt Lake City para mandar el mensaje que necesitamos una reforma sensata en inmigración.
Doce meses después el sentimiento ha cambiado y más personas estan con miedo en vez de enojadura pero podemos permitirnos no tener esperanza? No! Aún con las redadas en Hyrum, Utah, en el mes de diciembre pasado en Swift Corporación, no podemos parar de tenr fe y esperar por una situación mejor para todos.
Este año La Red, una organizacion latina diversa ha organizado una celebración llamada: “Día del Inmigrante.” Esta reunión para la reforma de la inmigración será realizara de 3 a 7 de la tarde, el 1 de mayo en el Parque de Washington enfrente del Edificio de la Ciudad-Condado, cerca de 400 Sur y State Street, en Salt Lake City Van a tener discursantes que son ciudadanos de EE.UU. por nacimiento pero que tienen a algunos miembros de sus familia que son inmigrantes ilegales. Esta reunión será más pequeña que el año pasado no obstante estan invitando a ciudadanos recientes y los que esperan conseguir la ciudadanía pronto que vayan a la demostración y firmen las peticiones y cartas a la delegación congresional de Utah.
Los organizadores han pedido a aquellos que quieren participar usen camisas blancas y si quieren pueden llevar una bandera Americana para mostrar respeto al el país donde vivimos.

What’s next?
After the nine suspected illegal immigrants were arrested by federal agents last week in Park City, what’s next? According to Lori Haley, agency spokeswoman, “This was part of nationwide effort by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to crack down on an estimated 600,000 people who have remained in the country after they’ve been ordered deported.” She mentioned also that this was not a random raid, even though it seems like it.
The truth is that we are concerned and I’m worried in particular about the children and how this is affecting them.
Last Monday, a few students were so anxious to share what they had experienced. It was very hard for them to concentrate before they shared what they had gone through.
One little boy said that immigration came to his house and showed him a picture of a family and asked him if he knew them. He answered their questions politely and they left.
Some children started talking about what if some members of their family were taken away and they were left alone. One of them said: “We would have to cook for ourselves!” Another mentioned, “We have to have food first.” All agreed that they would need money to be able to buy some. One of them mentioned that he had some money that he had saved from allowances and gifts.
It made me sad to listen to their concerns; some of them were worried about their mothers who are expecting and they didn’t want them to have their babies in an unknown and far away place. I believe you should talk to your children, explain as much as you can and try to bring some kind of comfort and peace to their minds.
According to the authorities, three of those arrested last week were considered fugitives, and the others were arrested for immigration violations discovered at the time of the operation.
Today, Saturday, April 28, at 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Park City, leaders of the community will meet to evaluate the situation and organize some support to the families that had someone taken into custody. You are invited to come and participate; it is very important to hear the opinions of many different individuals and how this event has affected their lives. We need to talk about what we should be doing and how the community can help.
A year ago one of the biggest demonstrations of immigrants was organized in Utah and around the country. Thousands of people took to the streets of Salt Lake City to send the message that we need sensible immigration reform.
Twelve months later, the feeling has changed and people are more afraid than angry, but can we afford not to have hope? No! Even with the raids in Hyrum, Utah, last December at Swift Corporation, we can’t stop hoping for a better situation for everybody.
This year, La Red, a cross-borders Latino network has organized a celebration called “Immigrant Day.” This rally for immigration reform will be held from 3 to 7 p.m., May 1, in Washington Park at the City-County Building, near 400 South and State Street, Salt Lake City. There will be speakers that are U.S. citizens because they were born here but have some members of their family who are illegal immigrants. This rally is going to be smaller than last year. Nevertheless, they are inviting new citizens and those who expect to soon gain citizenship to come to the rally and sign petitions and letters to Utah’s congressional delegation.
The organizers are asking those who want to participate in the rally to dress with white shirts and if they want to, they can bring an American flag to show respect for the country where we live.
