The smell of fresh-cut grass on the soccer field. The sound of sneakers squeaking on the volleyball court. The sight of a racket connecting perfectly with a ball on the tennis court or a driver making solid contact on the golf course. The goosebumps-inducing feeling of seeing a runner sprint toward the finish line after a long cross-country competition or watching a deep pass soar through the air toward an open receiver on the football field.
After taking a break for the summer, high school sports are back in action. Park City High School’s first home football game is scheduled Friday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m. at Dozier Field and the other PCHS sports are already underway.
There’s plenty to be excited about this fall. The PCHS boys’ golf team will try to win its ninth (yes, ninth) straight state championship and the girls’ tennis team will try to defend its 2015 title. The girls’ cross-country team, which saw its seven-year title streak end in 2015, will try to start a new one this season.
On the gridiron, first-year football coach Josh Montzingo will try to lead an improved Miner squad to its first playoff victory since 2009. With a strong contingent of offensive starters returning, the Miners should put plenty of points on the scoreboard in 2016.
On the pitch, the girls’ soccer team will try to earn another Region 10 title and make a deep playoff run after struggling in the early rounds in recent years.
With a strong senior class and talented athletes coming up through the lower levels of the school, it’s a good time to be a Miner.
Exciting things will be happening across all sports this fall, with every single team anticipated to be competitive at the 3A level.
These high-school athletes work hard to achieve the best results possible and the finished products should be thrilling to watch. So, grab a blanket (for the chilly Park City fall evenings), grab some popcorn and go support these young student-athletes as they pursue their lofty goals.
