Claiming Biden’s visit to Utah was “courageous” is nothing but hyperbole (“President Biden visit to Park City area: ‘To be seen in a red state shows courage,'” Aug. 11). Perhaps there are better examples of Biden’s courage to use when creating headlines? He has given much of his life in service to our country.
Presidential courage is marked by signing a treaty to end a war, thwarting a missile crisis or tearing down a wall between east and west.
But driving through Utah, a red state, for an afternoon in a motorcade to honor veterans or going to a pricey fundraiser in The Colony? Plenty of Democrats and Republicans have done the same. It didn’t take courage. It’s part of the political program. It probably took more “courage” to admit on national TV to using the Oval office to cheat on your wife. But I doubt we ever saw it described that way.
The person quoted is completely entitled to their opinion and I mean them no disrespect. However, using the quote as a headline diminishes a great American by exaggerating his efforts here. Biden will arguably be the best choice for our country in the next election and good on him for showing up in Utah. But let’s not lower the bar any further on leadership or courage.
