John Lawson is the co-star in the film “Daruma,” which premiered at the 2024 Slamdance Film Festival. Lawson was awarded the Best Actor Award for his work in this film during the festival award ceremony. Lawson lost both hands in an electrical accident 36 years ago, and since pursued acting with the goal of providing a model in the industry for people with disabilities, he said.

“Daruma” tells the story of a wheel-chair user, played by Tobias Forrest, who is shocked to learn that he is the father of a young girl and seeks parenting help from his neighbor, who is also disabled with two prosthetic hands (who is played by Lawson). In the film, the threesome travel across the country to deliver the young girl to her maternal grandfather.
