The United States set a new world record Saturday in men’s team pursuit at the Utah Olympic Oval on the second day of ISU World Cup Speed Skating competition.

Park City’s own Casey Dawson, along with Emery Lehman and Ethan Cepuran, skated to a time of 3:33.66 — besting previous record holder Norway’s time of 3:34.22 set earlier in January in the Netherlands. Team Norway finished second (3:35.30) and Team Italy finished third (3:36.69).

Early in the eight lap race, the team was ahead of the world record pace.
Casey Dawson in the lead position, closely followed by Emery Lehman and Ethan Cepuran, were never slower than world record pace in the entire eight-lap race.
Perhaps knowing they were about to set a world record, Casey cracks a smile on the final lap.
