Utah ski resorts
The following Utah ski resorts are scheduled to open weather permitting: Alta is now open for the season; Beaver Mountain, Dec. 15; Brian Head, Nov. 22; Brighton is now open with 24 inches of snow, 3 lifts and 10 runs open; Powder Mountain is still waiting to open; Snowbasin, Nov. 23; Snowbird is now open for the season; Solitude is now open for the season; Sundance, Dec. 8; and Wolf Mountain, Nov. 24.
Cross-country skiing
White Pine Touring says skiers have already taken to the course. The track at Park City Municipal Golf Course is slated to open by Tuesday, Nov. 21, weather permitting. Until then, users can ski without a pass. For more information, call 649-6249.

Wasatch-Cache National Forest
Mirror Lake Highway, S.R. 150, is now closed at mile marker 14 at Soapstone Basin. All campgrounds are currently closed and the ranger district is waiting for enough snowfall to start grooming cross-country trails. For more information, contact the Kamas Ranger District at (435) 783-4338.
Utah Avalanche Center
The Utah Avalanche Center, as of Friday, Nov. 17, is reporting avalanche danger as moderate on northwest, north, and northeast facing slopes above about 9,000 feet and steeper than about 35 degrees. The avalanches may be stubborn to trigger but if you do trigger one, it has the potential to be large and dangerous. On the lower-elevation slopes as well as southerly-facing slopes that had no preexisting snow prior to last weekend’s storm, the avalanche danger is low.
