Battersby first
Park City's Adam Battersby, age 15, took first place this past weekend at the SoBe Slopestyle Competition at The Canyons. Battersby defended his title for the second straight year in a row. Battersby has skied in the US Open at Vail and the Aspen Open with a dislocated shoulder and sprained ankle. This was his first day competing at near 100 percent. The SoBe Slopestyle was presented by SoBe, The Canyons Resort, Rossignol, L.L. Bean, Mountain Dew, and Nature Valley Granola Bars. Adam is sponsored by Scott, Predator wear, Team Vontaar and skis for Line Skis.
Race for the Cure
The Komen Salt Lake City Race for The Cure is recruiting volunteers to do various tasks for its upcoming race on May 13. The race volunteer organizing committee is urging community organizations, companies, families and individuals to volunteer together on race day. There will be 25 different stations at The Gateway where volunteers will be needed. Families or groups are encouraged to help. The purpose of the Komen Salt Lake City Race for the Cure is to raise funds to support breast cancer research, screening and treatment programs for under-served men and women in Utah. Since the first race more than $2.5 million have been raised to support organizations in Utah, which provide these services. register early.UTAH LACROSSE ASSOCIATION NAMES PAUL LARKIN AS NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Larkin succeeds Soni Taylor as leader of fast-growing statewide sport association SANDY, UTAH January 6, 2006 The Utah Lacrosse Association has named Paul Larkin of Holladay as its new Executive Director. He follows Soni Taylor, who successfully managed the organization through a multi-year period of 20 percent annual growth. Larkin played the sport on the Olympus High School boy's club team and at Utah State University, where he was president of the men's Lacrosse team. He has a degree in Business Information Systems, and varied experience in the business world. His technical skills will help the ULA improve its communication and online registration processes, and his organizational abilities will help strengthen the association's volunteer base. He started on Dec. 27th. Soni Taylor who served as the organization's first executive director for three years - will stay on for a one-month transition period before leaving to pursue Lacrosse-related business activities. "As the first full-time, paid US Lacrosse chapter executive director in the country, Soni is a true pioneer, well regarded by the national organization in Baltimore," said Michael O'Malley, ULA board president. "In her time with the ULA, she pushed us forward on many fronts, including driving broad-based expansion in our youth leagues and improving the ULA's financial reserves and service delivery in a period of high growth. We're looking forward to Paul helping to push our organization further." The Utah Lacrosse Association is a regional chapter of US Lacrosse, the national governing body of the sport. Lacrosse is a high-speed, high-scoring sport played by male and female Utahns from Kindergarten to post-collegiate age groups. More than 34 boy's high school teams and 18 girl's high school teams competed in the spring 2005 season. Lacrosse is considered the fastest-growing team sport in the country. The Park City competitive baseball program is looking for qualified coaches to help with all age groups (8-14 years old). They will be having a coach's meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. in the Park City High School cafeteria. Winter broadcast
NBC Sports and the national governing bodies representing the sports of curling, luge, and bobsled and skeleton are once again partnering to broadcast a winter sports festival this season, entitled ICE 2005. The four-hour, two-day broadcast on the Olympic network will air Saturday, Dec. 10, and Sunday, Dec. 11, from 4-6 p.m. ET each day.
ICE 2005 will likely feature 2002 Olympic medallists, including four-man bobsled Olympic silver medalist Todd Hays, silver medallists in doubles luge Mark Grimmette
and Brian Martin, skeleton Olympic champion Tristan Gale, and the men's and women's curling teams that will be representing the U.S. at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games.
