Gun owners are encouraged to obtain trigger locks free of charge from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office to help prevent children from accidentally discharging firearms.
The kits can be obtained at the Sheriff’s Office in Snyderville at 6300 N. Silver Creek Drive or by calling 615-3500. They include instructions and a cable-style lock that will fit most handguns, rifles and shotguns.
“If you have a gun, you need to be very responsible with it,” Summit County sheriff’s Chief Deputy Dave Booth said. “We just don’t want to have any accidents happen.”
Each year, grant money is used to purchase locks for the community, however, “not a lot of people take advantage,” Booth said.
“We’ll even bring it to their houses,” he added.
