A Kimball Junction nightclub was named Monday in a personal injury lawsuit that alleges bouncers beat a man during a concert at Suede last year.
The plaintiff, Brandon Moreton, claims he was at Suede for about 30 minutes on April 6, 2005, when bouncers began to beat him up.
According to a complaint filed against Suede in Third District Court on March 6, the fight started when Moreton criticized a bouncer for pulling a man out of the crowd at the club.
“When [Moreton] commented to the bouncer that it was ‘not cool’ to do what he was doing, the bouncer started to rough [Moreton] up,” the complaint states. “After a brief lapse in time, a second bouncer approached [Moreton] began to beat him up, pushed him down some stairs, and then severely beat plaintiff with the help of the first bouncer.”
Moreton alleges in the lawsuit that the bouncers, Anthony Sapa and Soka Aliu, beat him intentionally. During the fight, Moreton claims he suffered head, facial and back injuries. His medical expenses have exceeded $5,000, the lawsuit states.
“[Sapa] and [Aliu] were at all times acting within the course and scope of their employment with defendant Suede,” the lawsuit states.
Moreton claims Suede managers failed to properly train and monitor their bouncers.
The lawsuit also names as defendants several other entertainment businesses, including The Lick Salt and The Salt Lick. Along with medical costs, Moreton seeks damages for lost wages.
Suede manager Eric Oldham on Monday said the club had not been served with the lawsuit.
