A 41-year-old Tesla driver was arrested on Friday for pointing a gun at another motorist during a road rage incident.
Summit County Dispatch alerted area law enforcement to be on the lookout for the car around 1:30 p.m. after the other male driver reported the suspect brandished a firearm, according to arresting documents. A Utah Highway Patrol trooper located the Tesla traveling eastbound on S.R. 40 near mile marker 8. The driver was going 76 mph in a 65 mph zone.
The trooper stopped the car and spoke with the man, who admitted having a handgun in his glove box. The man told the trooper there was a road rage incident at the intersection of Interstate 80 and S.R. 40 where the lanes merge. He denied brandishing the firearm.
The other driver provided similar details about the incident, saying the Tesla driver held up his gun so he could see it. The description also matched the firearm that was found.
The Tesla driver was arrested and the firearm was seized as evidence. The vehicle was impounded.
The man was released on his own recognizance. He had not been formally charged as of Monday afternoon.
