Coalville City Councilor Steve Richins has resigned midway through his term, creating a vacancy that will be filled by the appointment of a replacement to serve the remaining two years.
A notice about the resignation and opening was posted Tuesday on the Coalville municipal website and on its Facebook page.
Richins, who resigned Monday, was born and raised in Coalville. He served 18 years on the City Council, from 1978 to 1982, 2004 to 2016 and 2022 to 2024.
“I have enjoyed our friendship and his insight of matters pertaining to the city business,” Coalville Mayor Mark Marsh said in an email Thursday.
Richins could not be reached for immediate comment.
City Council members are scheduled to vote at a Jan. 29 meeting on who to appoint to fill the seat. The appointment will be from Jan. 29, 2024, to Jan. 1, 2026.
Interested applicants can submit a letter of interest for consideration to Trevor Devey, City Recorder, at Coalville City Hall, 10 North Main, PO Box 188, Coalville, UT 84017. The deadline is 5 p.m. Jan. 23.
To be considered, applicants must be a U.S. citizen at the time of appointment; be a registered voter of the municipality; be a resident of the municipality for 12 consecutive months immediately preceding the date of appointment; and to not be a convicted felon, unless the right to hold elective office has been restored.
