The annual PBS KIDS Utah Writers and Illustrators Contest strives to foster creativity and literacy in young Utah artists and writers. 2024 Junior Open

This sailing event will be designed for developing youth racers and will follow the Racing Rules of Sailing. The event will include RS Teras (ages 9-13) Zim Prams (ages 8-12) and ILCA 6 and 7 (ages 12-18). Sailors will begin arriving at 8:30 a.m. Practice and pizza will be after practice at 4:30 p.m. There will be debriefing both days after racing, as well as some variation of an ice cream social on Saturday evening. Sweeney Switchback Hike with David Nicholas

This hike follows the Sweeney Switchback up to the Silver King Coalition Mine. The 100 Mile Meal will feature live music, local wine and beer, and a five-course dinner menu featuring ingredients sourced from farms within a 100-mile radius of Recycle Utah.

McPolin Barn and Farmhouse Tour

This educational tour of the McPolin Barn and Farmhouse is led by volunteer docents who will take participants on a journey through the history of the Farm from homesteading and dairy farming to open space. Free shuttle service offered from the PC MARC as there is no parking at the Farm. Tickets for July 13 are on sale via Eventbrite for $10 per person, and tours are approximately one hour. Kids are welcome; however, tours are tailored toward an adult audience. Tickets go on sale two weeks in advance of tour date or day of tour if space available. This sailing event will be designed for developing youth racers and will follow the Racing Rules of Sailing. The event will include RS Teras (ages 9-13) Zim Prams (ages 8-12) and ILCA 6 and 7 (ages 12-18). Sailors will begin arriving at 8:30 a.m. Practice and pizza will be after practice at 4:30 p.m. There will be debriefing both days after racing, as well as some variation of an ice cream social on Saturday evening. Did you know that there are fireflies on the Swaner Preserve? Stop by the EcoCenter to experience Swaner’s wetlands at night to look for one of their brightest inhabitants! No registration is required. Date is subject to change dependent upon the occurrence of fireflies. We usually start to see them light up between 9:30 and 10 p.m.. Fireflies can be spotted from the back deck and boardwalk, a path accessible by wheelchair and stroller.

Denver and Rio Grande Railway Historical Hike with David Nicholas

Spring Wildflower Hike: Evening Session

Join Swaner & Basin Recreation naturalists for a hike on the north side of the preserve to enjoy and learn about the wildflowers in bloom! Terrain is variable and the trails are exposed. Please come prepared with hiking shoes or boots, sun protection and water. There are two time options for these hikes — the morning and evening of June 21.

Summer Solstice Concert and Silent Auction

The event will feature The Discographers, the Shaka Shake food truck and a silent auction, which will benefit the temporary fire station. $5 per ticket will also go toward the station. Denver and Rio Grande Railway Historical Hike with David Nicholas

Traverse remnants of the Denver Rio Grande and Western Railway (DR&G) roadbed in Parley’s Canyon. Allow 3.5 hours roundtrip. The hike is moderate to strenuous. Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring sunscreen, snacks, and plenty of water. Hike is for Park City Museum members, who must RSVP with Diane Knispel at education@parkcityhistory.org with the following information: Which hike you would like to go on?
