I am writing to express my strong support for Sheldon Smith, who serves as the city attorney for Coalville City.

My late husband, Duane Schmidt, who served as mayor, had the pleasure of working closely with Sheldon on numerous community issues. During Duane’s two terms in office, Sheldon’s dedication and expertise were invaluable. He not only provided excellent legal counsel but also demonstrated genuine compassion for our community. Duane held Sheldon in high regard and sought his advice time and time again.

Sheldon has been instrumental in several key initiatives, including the Allen Hollow Project, the sewer treatment plant, the skate park and Main Street revitalization. He played a crucial role in the implementation of new zoning regulations that have helped to preserve the town’s historic character while accommodating growth. His efforts in mediating disputes between local businesses and residents have fostered a more harmonious community environment.

Beyond my personal experience, I am aware of Sheldon’s ongoing commitment to Coalville City and its citizens. He has consistently gone above and beyond to ensure that his legal expertise benefits the community as a whole, without personal bias. His proactive approach in addressing legal challenges and his ability to find innovative solutions have earned him the respect and admiration of both colleagues and community members.

I am grateful for Sheldon and what he meant to Duane and means to me. He is a valuable asset to Coalville City and the community.

Julie Schmidt
