The need for bipartisan representation at the county level has never been more critical. Our current political landscape, the makeup of the Summit County elected officials does not fully represent the diverse political affiliations of citizens it represents.

Bipartisan representation is essential for fostering regional collaboration. When all voices are heard, and diverse perspectives are considered, we can better develop comprehensive solutions that benefit everyone. Our county’s current political structure creates perceived barriers that hinder effective collaboration with intracounty jurisdictions and the state Legislature, both of which are dominated by Republican representation.

Too often the county has clashed with our state Legislature on issues such as land use, development and transportation. This “us against them” mindset needs to change, as it hinders the best outcomes for our community and often benefits only the rich and powerful. Having bipartisan representatives in our county can foster a more collaborative relationship at the state level, leading to better and more equitable outcomes for everyone.

Land use and open space preservation are critical issues that would benefit from a balanced approach. Summit County’s unique challenges cannot be fully addressed without working with our local, state, and federal elected officials. Bipartisan representation at the county level will enhance regional collaboration to support land use policies that balance the needs of our communities with the preservation of our natural environment.

By working together, we can protect open spaces while enacting policies that meet the needs of our communities, ensuring that future generations can enjoy the beauty of Summit County.

The lack of affordable workforce housing is a pressing issue that also affects the entire county. Advocates agree workforce housing is most effective in areas with critical infrastructure like water, sewage, and transportation. Typically, these areas are within the incorporated areas of the county, rather than on the east side.

Bipartisan representation on the County Council will enable us to better collaborate with town councils in the incorporated areas as well as state officials. Only then can we create housing policies that support our workforce and ensure that essential workers can afford to live in the communities they serve.

Bipartisan representation on the Summit County Council is essential for fostering regional collaboration and addressing critical needs such as land use, open space preservation, and workforce housing. By ensuring that all voices are heard and diverse perspectives are considered, we can break down perceived barriers and develop comprehensive solutions that benefit everyone in our community. It’s time to move beyond partisan politics and work together for the future of Summit County.
