The Fourth of July celebrates America’s past, present and future in a variety of ways — namely, parades, cookouts and fireworks.
However, Park City, the home of many Olympians and world-class athletes, has a majority of residents who won’t settle for largely stationary activities. Monday’s Fourth of July events are sure to keep Parkites outdoors and enjoying what’s forecast to be another beautiful summer day.
From the morning’s 5K Fun Run to the always-popular parade along Main Street and Park Avenue to rugby and volleyball games at City Park, the city will be abuzz with activities. Bands are scheduled to play on the City Park softball field during the afternoon festivities, too, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
But, with so many people gathered in one spot, there’s bound to be a lot of waste produced. In order to keep Park City beautiful, it falls on everyone to do their part to pick up empty cans, bottles, food and any other garbage and put it in the nearest trash bin. Don’t worry — there will be plenty and they will be conveniently located.
For those who want a little less structure and noise in their activities, a hike, run or bike ride along one of Park City’s 400 miles of trails will provide temporary cover from the sun.
The same guidelines should be followed on the trails, too. Pick up after pets and don’t leave trash lining the beautiful trail system. Go out and have fun, but be sure to pack out what you pack in.
After a day full of activities, make sure to be back in time for the evening’s fireworks. Once darkness falls, you’ll want to make sure you have a clear line of sight to Park City Mountain, where the show is scheduled to begin at about 9:30.
Though a recent spate of rain has provided some much-needed moisture to the area’s plants, leave the fireworks shows to the experts. A stray spark from an improperly lit (and illegal) firework could be all it takes to start a large fire.
For residents and visitors alike, there are plenty of options to get out, get active and enjoy the long holiday weekend while still being responsible and keeping Park City clean.
Happy birthday, America!
